A Conversation with a WWII Hero from the Pacific

I had the pleasure of meeting a veteran who served in the Pacific during WWII. He shared many of his experiences as a naval officer serving on a small boat with 71 people aboard. He said that his boat must have been protected by God because everyone on his boat survived. One of the statements that he said that resonated with me was that he wasn’t a hero, but those who had died were heroes. He also said those with a purple heart were heroes. In my eyes, he is a hero, but the humility that he showed demonstrates how he felt he was just playing his part. He also mentioned that he wanted to join the war because he wanted to finish the war for his country and then come home to live a normal life. To him, joining the war wasn’t exciting or terrifying, but it was his duty. I find this incredibly modest. It was a pleasure getting to meet and interview this veteran and I want to thank him for taking his time to talk to me and for his service to our country
